Privacy policy
Updated 29 October 2026
TidyPlace is an app for sharing household chores as a family. To work, it needs to store some data about you and your household. Here is which data, why, and how you can delete it, with no fine print.
- We don’t sell your dataNor use it for advertising. The app has no ads.
- Only what’s neededWhat the app needs to work, and what we need to fix bugs.
- Leave whenever you wantDelete your account in the app: Settings → Delete account.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of your data is NeonGate LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company based in Sheridan, Wyoming 82801, United States, which develops TidyPlace. For any privacy question, write to contact@neongate.co.
2. What data we use and why
Your account
- Email and password, to create your account and sign in. We never see your password: it is stored hashed by our authentication provider.
- Your name (the one you choose when signing up), so your family knows who did what. You can change it in Settings.
- Your language, so account emails (for example, the code to confirm your account or reset your password) reach you in your language.
Your household
- The household name, its members and their role (owner, admin, member), rooms, tasks, who each task is assigned to and since when, who completed each task and when, points, rewards and reward requests.
- Invitation codes to join a household, which expire.
- If you turn on vacation mode, its start and end dates.
- If your household organises a cleaning challenge: its dates, who takes part, which tasks the draw gave each person, whether they did them, and the points each person received for completing theirs. If you leave the household, your name is removed from it.
- If a task rotates between people: who takes part and in what order. If you leave the household, you are removed from the rotation.
The other members of your household can see all of this. Nobody outside it can.
Chat
The messages you write in the chat are stored so the people you write to can read them. Messages to the whole household are seen by everyone in it. Private messages are seen only by you and the other person — not even whoever manages the household can read them. The notification of a new message carries its text, up to 140 characters.
Push notifications
If you allow it, we store an identifier for your device to send you notifications (for example, “Ana completed a task”). The notification reaches your phone with the name of the person who did something and the name of the task or reward; your own phone writes the text in your language.
In Settings you can turn off each kind of notification (chores, rewards, chat, and household changes: who joins or leaves, and whether the household is deleted). We also store your phone’s time difference from UTC, and the hour you choose for the daily reminder of today’s and overdue chores (9 a.m. unless you change it) and, if you ask it to insist every 3 hours, for all your chores or only the ones you mark, until what time, so it reaches you at those times of your day.
Messages you send us
If you write to us from Settings → Contact us, we keep your message, its type (bug, suggestion, other), the app version and language, and we email it to contact@neongate.co with your account’s email address so we can reply. At most five messages a day per account.
App usage
We record when you open the app (at most once per minute), linked to your account. That’s all: not which screens you look at, nor where you are. It tells us, overall, how much TidyPlace is used. Nobody can read these records from the app.
Error reports
When something breaks, the app sends a technical report so we can fix it. Before it leaves your phone, the report is cleaned: emails, names, task titles, household names, passwords and access keys are removed. Only an internal account identifier remains (a random code that doesn’t say who you are), so we can tell whether a bug affects one person or many. The app does not attach your IP address to the report.
On your own phone
The app keeps a copy of your household’s data and a queue of pending changes on your phone, so it can work offline. It also keeps your session and chosen language. All of this is removed if you uninstall the app.
3. Why we can use it (legal basis)
- To provide the service you ask for when you create an account (account, household, tasks, points, rewards, account emails): necessary to perform our agreement with you.
- Push notifications: your consent, given when you allow notifications and withdrawable at any time in your phone’s settings.
- Error reports and app-open counts: our legitimate interest in making the app work well and knowing whether it’s useful, with data kept to the minimum described above.
4. Who we share it with
We don’t sell or hand over your data to anyone. We use these providers, who process it only on our behalf:
| Provider | Purpose | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, accounts and sending notifications | USA (us-east-1) |
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Delivering notifications to your phone | USA and other countries |
| Resend | Sending account emails (confirmation and reset codes) | USA |
| Sentry | Receiving error reports, already cleaned | USA |
| Vercel | Hosting this website and the app download | USA and other countries |
Transfers outside the European Economic Area: these providers are in the United States or use servers there. Where that happens, the transfer relies on the safeguards the law provides, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider has joined it.
We may also have to disclose data if a law or an authority requires it.
5. How long we keep it
- While you have an account, we keep your account and household data.
- If you leave a household: your membership of it, your points there, your reward requests and your device identifiers are deleted. Tasks assigned to you become open to anyone. So they can be handed out again, whoever manages the household sees your name next to those tasks until they are reassigned, for at most 30 days; then it is deleted. The history of tasks you completed stays with the household, but without your name.
- If a household is deleted: so we can tell the people who were in it, we keep its name, the name of whoever deleted it and who was in it for at most 7 days; then it is deleted.
- If you ask for a cleaning challenge: so we can tell whoever manages the household, and so nobody asks more than once a day, we keep who asked and when for at most 7 days; then it is deleted.
- If you delete your account: see the next section.
- Chat messages are kept while the household exists. If you leave it or delete your account, what you wrote to the whole household stays without your name, and your private conversations are deleted.
- Invitation codes expire after the period set when they were created, and stop working if their creator loses permission or leaves the household.
- Error reports are kept by Sentry for its service’s retention period and then deleted automatically.
- Our providers’ backups may keep data for a limited time until they are rotated.
6. How to delete your account
In the app: Settings → Delete account (the last button).
By email: write to contact@neongate.co from your account’s email address and we’ll delete it for you. We may ask you to confirm it’s you.
Deleting your account removes your account (email, password, name, language), your household membership with your points and reward requests, your device identifiers, your notification settings, your private chat conversations, the messages you sent us from the app and the record of when you opened the app. The household’s task history may be kept, but without your name, so the family doesn’t lose what was done. As when you leave a household, whoever manages it sees your name next to the tasks you had until they are reassigned, for at most 30 days.
If you own the household and other people live in it, you first need to hand ownership to someone else or delete the household; otherwise nobody could manage it. If you are the only one in your household, the household is deleted along with your account.
7. Your rights
At any time you can ask us for:
- Access: to know what data we hold about you and get a copy.
- Rectification: to correct it. You can change your name yourself in Settings.
- Erasure: to delete it (see section 6).
- Portability: to receive your data in a format you can take elsewhere.
- Objection and restriction: to stop using your data for something, such as error reports or app-open counts.
- Withdrawing consent for notifications, by turning them off on your phone.
Write to contact@neongate.co and we’ll answer within one month. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country; if you live in the European Union, that’s the one in your member state.
8. Children
TidyPlace is made for families, so children appear in it. That’s why:
- To create an account you must be at least 13. When you sign up, the app asks what year you were born; if that gives less than 13, the account isn’t created. We don’t keep the year: it never leaves your phone. If the age to agree to this on your own is higher where you live (in the European Union it can be up to 16), you need permission from a parent or guardian.
- Everyone in a household uses their own account: there are no profiles without an account.
- If a minor uses the app, they should do so with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian.
If you believe a minor has created an account without that permission, write to us and we’ll delete it.
9. How we protect your data
- Everything travels encrypted between your phone and our servers (HTTPS).
- The database enforces row-level security: each person can only read and change their own household’s data, and every action is checked on the server, not just in the app.
- Passwords are stored hashed and nobody on the team can see them.
- Error reports are cleaned of personal data before they leave the phone.
No system is perfect. If an incident affects your data, we’ll let you know where the law requires it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change something important, we’ll publish it here with a new date and, if the change really affects you, tell you in the app or by email.
